3 Day Desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Aït Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Your 3-Day Sahara Desert adventure begins in the morning with a convenient pick-up from your accommodation anywhere in Marrakech. Meet your driver/guide and set off on an unforgettable journey towards the spectacular Dades Valley, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, located at an impressive altitude of around 2,260 meters.

As you travel through the mountains, enjoy several scenic stops to admire breathtaking panoramic views, capture memorable photos, and discover the traditional Berber villages scattered across the rugged landscape.

Around midday, arrive at the iconic Aït Benhaddou Kasbah, a spectacular fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Take time to explore its narrow alleys, ancient architecture, and fascinating history. The kasbah has also provided the backdrop for famous films and productions, including Gladiator and The Mummy.

After your visit, enjoy lunch before continuing towards Ouarzazate, often known as the gateway to the Sahara. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit the impressive Taourirt Kasbah, one of Morocco’s most remarkable historic kasbahs.

Continue your journey southeast through the beautiful Skoura Palm Grove, surrounded by lush palm trees and traditional kasbahs, before reaching the scenic Valley of Roses and the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley.

Arrive in the evening and check into your comfortable hotel or riad, where you can relax and enjoy a delicious traditional dinner before spending the night.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

After a delicious breakfast at your hotel or riad, get ready for the most exciting part of your journey as we head towards the Merzouga Sahara Desert.

Before leaving the Dades Valley, we will explore the spectacular Dades Gorges, where dramatic rock formations and breathtaking mountain scenery provide the perfect opportunity to take memorable photographs.

We then continue towards Tinghir and the impressive Todra Gorges, one of the most spectacular natural attractions in southern Morocco. Take some time to walk through the towering canyon, admire the dramatic cliffs, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Our journey continues through Tinjdad, where we will stop for a delicious lunch before heading deeper into the desert. Along the way, we pass through Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils and known as one of Morocco’s most important fossil-producing areas.

We will arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon, around 4:00 PM, where your unforgettable Sahara experience begins. Meet your camels and prepare for an exciting camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Each guest will have their own camel, and the trek will take approximately 1.5 hours, allowing you to experience the peaceful beauty of the Sahara from the heart of the dunes.

Upon arrival at your traditional desert camp, settle into your tent and leave your luggage before heading out to explore the surrounding dunes. Climb the sandy slopes, try your hand at sandboarding, and find the perfect spot to watch the spectacular Sahara sunset paint the dunes in golden and orange colors.

After sunset, return to camp and relax with a welcoming glass of traditional Moroccan mint tea, often affectionately called “Berber whisky.” Enjoy a delicious dinner featuring authentic Moroccan cuisine, including a traditional Berber tagine.

As night falls, the desert comes alive with the sounds of traditional Berber music. Gather around the campfire, listen to local musicians playing drums, and enjoy singing and dancing beneath the open desert sky.

Finally, take a moment to look up at the incredible Sahara night sky, where thousands of stars illuminate the darkness. It is the perfect ending to an unforgettable day in the desert.

Day 3: Merzouga – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Wake up early to experience one of the most magical moments of your Sahara adventure: sunrise over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. You will wake up, giving you the opportunity to climb to a scenic viewpoint and watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the vast desert landscape.

After sunrise, return to the camp and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Take some time to freshen up and shower before beginning your journey back to Marrakech.

Our return journey takes us through the spectacular Tafilalet Palm Grove, one of Morocco’s largest and most important oasis regions. From here, we travel through the scenic Draa Valley, renowned for its lush palm groves, traditional villages, and beautiful desert landscapes.

Continue towards Ouarzazate, where you will have time to enjoy lunch and relax before the final leg of your journey.

In the afternoon, we begin our drive back to Marrakesh, crossing the High Atlas Mountains once again and enjoying the changing landscapes along the way.

We expect to arrive in Marrakech in the evening, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation, marking the end of your 3-Day Merzouga Desert Adventure.

Note; the third day is quite long, with approximately 8 to 9 hours of driving. Therefore,, if you can add a 4th day, the journey will be much more enjoyable and less tiring, giving you more time to enjoy the landscapes, visits and the Desert.
